How to Choose a Telecentric Lens for Measurement

Step 1: Define the field of view

Measure the largest dimension of your part and add 10%–20% margin for placement tolerance to get the required field of view.

Step 2: Match the sensor format

Magnification = sensor size ÷ field of view. Divide the long edge of the sensor by the long edge of the FOV to get the minimum magnification you need.

Step 3: Check the resolution

Object-space resolution = pixel size ÷ magnification. Confirm this value is better than one third of your measurement tolerance.

Step 4: Confirm working distance and depth of field

Pick the working distance that fits your mechanical layout, then verify the depth of field covers the height variation of the part.
